Speak a task. Get a prompt.

Kickoff is a voice keyboard for iPad and iPhone. Talk through the task, and Kickoff writes it up in sections for your coding agent. It asks what you left out, and a message to a person stays a message.

Needs iPadOS 17 or later on iPad, and iOS 17 or later on iPhone. Typing works without Full Access.

Prompts by voice

Say the task. Kickoff writes the prompt.

Explain the task the way you would explain it to a colleague. Then tap Make it a prompt, or end with “Kickoff, make it a prompt”. Kickoff sorts what you said into sections and asks about anything you left out.

What you said

The stream tests are flaky. I think it's the timeout, the test sleeps instead of waiting on the expectation. Fix them, but don't touch the public API.

Make it a prompt

What lands in the field

## Goal
Fix the flaky tests in the stream test.

## Context
The cause may be the timeout. The test sleeps instead of waiting on the expectation.

## Limits
- Do not touch the public API.

## Done when
- The stream tests pass 10 times in a row.

Nobody said what done means, so Kickoff asked “How will you know it is done?” and the answer “ten runs in a row” became the last section. Every word in the prompt comes from what you said or answered. The result above is an example, and model output varies.

What it does

Dictate, make prompts, keep your history

Dictate in the apps you already use

The mic sits on the keyboard, so you dictate straight into the field: an agent chat, a terminal, a note or an email. Pause while you think, then resume. Your words land as a message, cleaned of filler. In a terminal they land as one line, because a new line would send them.

How the microphone works

Edit by voice, or tap an action

Select text and say “Kickoff, make it shorter”. A preview shows the text before and after, and nothing changes until you tap Apply. With the letter keys showing, Proofread, Rewrite, Shorten, TTS and your own actions work the same way.

What each action does
  • Proofread
  • Rewrite
  • Shorten
  • TTS
  • Your own

Proofread

Before
can u check the servr logs i think theres a issue with the auth flow
After
Can you check the server logs? I think there's an issue with the auth flow.

Shorten

Before
I wanted to follow up and ask whether you had a chance to look at the pull request I sent over yesterday afternoon.
After
Did you get a chance to review yesterday's pull request?

Start once, then keep dictating

Your first tap on the mic opens the Kickoff app and starts a session. While the session is on, the next dictation starts from the keyboard. A Live Activity shows whether Kickoff is ready, recording or transcribing, and it has a button to end the session.

When a session ends

The Live Activity shows each state:

  • Ready to dictate
  • Recording0:42
  • Paused0:42
  • Transcribing

Your history stays on your device

History keeps your last 200 dictations and AI action results. Tap an entry to copy it. Kickoff does not upload or sync your history, and you can clear it at any time.

What stays on your device
How it works

Set up once, then dictate from the keyboard

iOS does not let keyboards use the microphone. So the Kickoff app records the audio, and the keyboard inserts the text. That is why step 2 opens the app once.

  1. 01

Add the keyboard and allow Full Access

Open Kickoff and follow the setup screens. Then go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard, choose Kickoff, tap it, and turn on Allow Full Access.

  2. 02

Tap the mic. Kickoff opens once.

The Kickoff app starts recording and a session. Tap the name of your app in the top-left corner to go back, and keep talking.

  3. 03

    Speak, then tap stop

The text lands in the field a few seconds later. While the session is on, the next tap on the mic records from the keyboard, and Kickoff stays in the background.

iPad

Built for long prompts on iPad

A good prompt for an agent carries context, limits and steps. On iPad you can say all of it while the conversation stays on screen, and check the text before you send it.

  • The same keyboard and actions

Kickoff works the same way on iPad and iPhone. It needs iPadOS 17 or later.

  • Asks what you left out

When the goal or the finish line is missing, Kickoff asks, and you answer by voice.

  • Sections that fit on screen

On iPad the prompt card shows its sections in two columns, so you check it all before you insert it.

  • History on each device

Each iPad and iPhone keeps its own history. Kickoff does not sync it.

Privacy

Where your data goes

Kickoff sends data only when you dictate, run an AI action or tap TTS. This table names every service that receives it.

What Kickoff sends, when it sends it, and where it goes
What you sendWhenWhere it goes
Audio of a dictation When the recording stops: you tap stop, it reaches 5 minutes, or the session ends Kickoff's server on Cloudflare, then Inworld, which transcribes it with Groq's Whisper model
Text for an AI action When you tap the action Kickoff's server, then OpenRouter, then xAI, whose Grok model writes the result
Text for TTS (read aloud) When you tap TTS Kickoff's server, then Inworld, which turns it into speech
Install ID, a random identifier With each request Kickoff's server only
History, settings and your actions Never Stays on your device

Kickoff has no accounts, ads or analytics SDKs. Our server passes your audio and text on and keeps no copy.

Questions

Questions people ask first

Why does Kickoff open when I tap the mic?

iOS does not give keyboards access to the microphone. The Kickoff app records the audio, so your first tap opens it and starts a session. Go back to your app and keep talking. While the session is on, later taps start recording from the keyboard.

Does it work offline?

No. Dictation, AI actions and TTS all use servers, so they need an internet connection. Typing works offline.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. Kickoff runs on iPad with iPadOS 17 or later. The keyboard, the AI actions and the session work the same way as on iPhone.

Do I need an account?

No. Kickoff has no sign-up and no account. The app creates a random install ID so that our server can limit how many requests one install sends. Kickoff sends no audio or text until you agree on its privacy screen.
